Area and Perimeter Fun!

I have been so busy working on state test practice with each class and I am so glad to be done! I finally got to do something fun with a class today. The teacher requested some practice on finding the area of complex figures. I looked up some fun activities and I don't know why I never thought of using Cheez-Its myself! I came up with this packet for the lesson. First we discussed the formulas and units for  measuring perimeter and area. I handed out the packets and modeled how to find the perimeter and area and then use the crackers to check. Using the crackers really helped the students get a grasp on what area really is. I had a great time teaching and the students had a blast too. They were really responsible with the crackers.

The packet has the pages we used, a blank for creating your own problems, and a challenge problem for kids to do at home. The border came from Print Candee and the fonts are from kevinandamanda.com.
